Freeze-dried food can last up to 25 years, but proper storage is key. Here’s how to keep it fresh:

1. Ensure It’s Dry
After freeze drying, break a piece in half and check for ice particles in the center. If it’s still cold or has ice, put it back in the freeze dryer for a short cycle.
2. Seal It Properly
Store freeze-dried food in airtight containers to prevent moisture from getting in. For the longest shelf life (up to 25 years), Mylar bags are a great choice. Add an oxygen absorber to keep oxygen out, then seal the bag with an impulse sealer or a hot iron.
3. Storage Options
• Mylar Bags: Affordable and great for long-term storage with oxygen absorbers.
• #10 Cans: Ideal for long-term storage but require a can sealer.
• Vacuum Sealed Bags: Good for most foods, except meats and high-protein items.
• Airtight Jars: Best for snacks like fruits, vegetables, or desserts. No oxygen absorber needed for short-term storage.
Make sure to reseal jars tightly after use and keep them in a cool, dry place.
