How to cook homemade dog food

By MyLifeTipsHub homemade dog food

I’ve been making this balanced homemade dog food recipe for years, recommended by my vet. It’s great for my dogs’ health—shiny coats, clean teeth, and fresh breath! Though it can be pricey, it’s cheaper than vet bills in the long run. Plus, it’s easy to make in bulk, store, and serve.

Why you’ll love this recipe

It’s healthy, customizable, and convenient. Make a large batch once or twice a month, store in the freezer, and thaw as needed. I make 11 pounds of food, which lasts about 3 weeks for my two small dogs.

How much to feed your dog

Check with your vet for specific amounts, but generally, feed 2-3% of your dog’s body weight daily. I feed my 10-pound dogs about 2.4 oz twice a day.

Ingredients

• Lean ground beef, turkey, or chicken

• Hempseed for omega-3 & omega-6

• Sardines for vitamins E & D

• Ground ginger for joint health

• Kelp powder for teeth & coat

• Eggs & eggshells for calcium

• Beef liver for iron, zinc, and protein

• Veggies: Broccoli, red bell pepper, spinach (use caution with senior dogs)

How to make it

Mix ground meat, eggs, hempseed, sardines, ginger, and pumpkin puree. Blend veggies, eggshells, and beef liver in a food processor, then combine everything.

Storage

Portion the food based on your dog’s needs. Keep raw food frozen for weeks; cooked food lasts 3-4 days in the fridge. I recommend using reusable freezer bags.

To serve

You can serve it raw or cook it on low heat without oil.

Healthy Treats

For extra nutrition, try dehydrated green-lipped mussels—great for joint health.
